Who we are

Indo Coral Conservation is a small, grassroots marine conservation team focused on doing the work—day in, day out—with care, consistency, and purpose. We’re not here for flashy images or trendy slogans.
We believe actions speak louder than words. Our mission is to contribute meaningfully to coral reef restoration in North Lombok and to support our local community through education and engagement. By involving visitors in our efforts and promoting responsible tourism in the Gili Islands, we hope to spark curiosity and a deeper appreciation for Indonesia’s marine ecosystems.
As a local team rooted in the community, we’re passionate about protecting what surrounds us. We’re not chasing headlines—we’re planting corals, sharing knowledge, and showing up, again and again.
We know that trust in NGOs doesn’t come easily. That’s why we keep things simple: no big promises, no inflated claims. Just honest conservation work, transparent intentions, and a commitment to keep going.

Our Story
Indo Coral Conservation is a 100% Indonesian non-profit foundation, officially established on March 9, 2023. It grew from the long-standing marine conservation efforts of 3W Dive Center and several of its Indonesian team members who have been actively engaged in marine protection and community outreach on Gili Air for years.
3W Dive Center has been part of the Gili Air diving community since 2012. In 2018, the team began taking more structured steps toward marine conservation and local education. One year later, in 2019, they launched a coral farm in North Lombok—an initiative that has since become the heart of Indo Coral Conservation. The farm has proven successful, allowing us to grow and replant corals on degraded reef areas, with promising potential for long-term reef restoration.
Recognizing the need for a dedicated, locally driven conservation platform, Indo Coral Conservation was created as a separate legal entity to deepen this commitment. The foundation operates using the existing infrastructure of 3W Dive Center—its boats, equipment, and facilities—allowing us to stay efficient and focused on fieldwork and marine education.
Since its founding, Indo Coral Conservation has centered its work around coral restoration, reef monitoring, and community engagement. We’ve built strong relationships with local schools and universities, and continue to grow through collaboration, consistency, and a shared purpose.
What We Do
At Indo Coral Conservation, we’re committed to the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of marine ecosystems in North Lombok and the Gili Matra National Marine Park. Our work is rooted in science, education, and long-term collaboration—with coral farming at the heart of it all.

We use the micro-fragmentation technique to grow corals on our farm in North Lombok. Over the past few years, we’ve successfully replanted around 600 mature corals onto degraded reef areas—and we’re aiming to double that in the coming years. Coral farming is more than a method for us; it’s a long-term strategy to support reef recovery and resilience.

- Underwater Photo transects (corals)
- Underwater visual census (fish)
- Belt transects (invertebrates)
- Photo identification (sea turtles)

We believe conservation starts with awareness.
- Every week, we deliver environmental education classes to 5th-grade students on Gili Air, covering marine life, pollution, and health/civic responsibility.
- Each academic year, we host 8 marine biology students from the University of Mataram for a 12-week applied full time internship, offering hands-on field training, full accommodation, and support.

We also engage with tourists through educational programs that highlight the ecological and cultural importance of coral reefs. Some of these activities are kid-friendly (ages 8+), making marine conservation accessible to families and younger ocean lovers.
