Who we are
Indo Coral Conservation is a small, grassroots marine conservation team focused on doing the work, day in and day out, with care, consistency, and purpose. We’re not here for flashy images or trendy slogans.
We believe actions speak louder than words. Our mission is to contribute meaningfully to coral reef restoration in North Lombok and to support our local community through education and engagement. By involving visitors in our efforts and promoting responsible tourism in the Gili Islands, we hope to spark curiosity and a deeper appreciation for Indonesia’s marine ecosystems.
As a local team rooted in the community, we’re passionate about protecting what surrounds us. We’re not chasing headlines, we’re planting corals, sharing knowledge, and showing up, again and again.
We know that trust in NGOs doesn’t come easily. That’s why we keep things simple: no big promises, no inflated claims. Just honest conservation work, transparent intentions, and a commitment to keep going.
Our Story
Indo Coral Conservation is a registered Indonesian non-profit founded on March 9, 2023. It grew out of 3W Dive Center’s long-standing conservation work, including the launch of a coral farm in North Lombok in 2019.
The foundation uses 3W Dive’s infrastructure to focus on coral restoration, reef monitoring, and education.
What We Do
Our work is rooted in science, education, and long-term collaboration, with coral farming at the heart of it all.
We use the micro-fragmentation technique to grow corals on our farm in North Lombok. Over the past few years, we’ve successfully replanted around 600 mature corals onto degraded reef areas, and we’re aiming to double that in the coming years. Coral farming is more than a method for us; it’s a long-term strategy to support reef recovery and resilience.
To better understand and protect the reef, we implement standardized ecological monitoring protocols, including:
- Underwater Photo transects (corals)
- Underwater visual census (fish)
- Belt transects (invertebrates)
- Photo identification (sea turtles)
This data helps inform local marine management and track ecosystem health over time.
We believe conservation starts with awareness.
Every week, we deliver environmental education classes to 5th-grade students on Gili Air, covering marine life, pollution, and health/civic responsibility.
Each academic year, we host 8 marine biology students from the University of Mataram for a 12-week applied full time internship, offering hands-on field training, full accommodation, and support.
We also engage with tourists through educational programs that highlight the ecological and cultural importance of coral reefs. Some of these activities are kid-friendly (ages 8+), making marine conservation accessible to families and younger ocean lovers.
